Marble Arch

A scheme to provide congestion relief and modernisation within a heavily used section 12 station. Marble Arch station is surrounded by buildings including a hotel overhead, and fronts one of the busiest road junctions in London

YJLi have been asked to adopt and take responsibility for the employer's designs for this project, taking the scheme through the final stages of obtaining assurance approvals.

This scheme provides for the modernisation of Marble Arch station, and includes provision for congestion relief and significant enhancement of the ticket hall and booking office.

The project scope includes a series of back of house moves, leading to the relocation of the secure suite on the opposite wall of the ticket office to avoid congestion at the gateline. POM locations are also being revised and even the cladding on the stanchions in the ticket hall are being replaced with more compact alternatives to maximise the circulation space.

New containment, services and finishes are being installed throughout the station, and new containment has to be sensitively routed around retained heritage features such as the murals on the platform walls.

The ticket hall roof is below the road and pavement of Oxford Street and has significantly deteriorated due to water ingress and poor detailing in the past. YJLi will be repairing and strengthening the supporting steels with minimal disruption to the large number of vehicles and pedestrians above.

As part of this scheme, YJLi have been granted self-assuring status.
